Haven't read every detail of your post. Just agree in general with the sentiments.

I was having a look at a big bridgedeck cat that was up on blocks at a local boat yard. It was obvious how expensive and heavy every part of that boat is.
A huge stayed 20m? mast.
Big heavy fat short hulls.
Massive windage area of the bridgedeck etc.

Just the huge rig alone would need very large and expensive sails. So all that is multiplying many times what a HP would require.
For me anyway, the schooner rig on an HP is just 2 fairly small to medium mainsails. Everything again is lesss stressed by lower sailing loads. etc etc.

Not to paint too dismal a picture of the catamaran but cannot contemplate such a enormous big project such as that.

All that may be in it's favour is that it is a common thing and so people are more familiar with them and are not scared of from something more unusual.
