That is where it changes from reaching to running.  In a boat that can sail faster than wind reaching there is no point running unless you do not have room to tack downwind.  Also remember there is no additional downwind sail.  It is limited to the 57sq.m.  Best VMG downwind is sailing 125 degrees to true wind.  


The 18m Melbourne HP that I sail on can just make windspeed at its best point of sailing but even it is nicer reaching downwind than dead running.  Dead running is OK if the wind is above 20kts because it has enough speed to have good control.  Under 10kts boatspeed it wallows about and the mast flogs because it is not tight in its bearings.  Much more pleasant to reach and load the rig a bit.
