I heard there were some new types of boards out now.

Not super bothered since ride a boogie board. Also a few tyoes of foam in them. But no glass covering though.

Light weight and strength and the preferred stiffness are factors.
Durability of the foam in boogie boards since it will get wear.

Used the boogieboard to ferry out to boat when at anchor. Keep clothes etc dry.
Useful on small camper. Though more often anchored in knee deep so just walk out.

I've been having recurring dream about
a machine that would receive

a sheet of low density XPS, which would be heated just above
it's

softening temp of 100C (full melting temp is 210C) using
radiant heat

applied to one surface.   It would move under a platen,
which would come

down, applying as much pressure as needed to compress it to
the desired

thickness.  As the heat is applied at the surface, this
would result in

a progressively lower density away from that surface.  The
sheet of foam

would have to be contained entirely so that it could only
compress, not

flow outward.  If both surfaces were treated this way, the
result would

be an almost perfect core material.... Highest density at
the surface,

lowest at the center.

It's the stuff of fantasy of course, completely
impractical, but

fun to think about how construction foam could be made into
the ideal

variable density material for a core.   It could not be
done inline in

the manufacturing process, because the center would hold
it's heat

longer than the surface.... the reverse of what is
needed..............

    Interestingly, I ran across a surfboard builder's
web site, and

learned that many are being built with EPS (bead board)
core, with

divinicell on either side, followed by fiberglass, the idea
being weight

reduction without loss of strength.
