If we are looking at harryproa.com integration, i was looking at

https://wordpress.org/plugins/gnu-mailman-integration/#installation

Because this wordpress plugin itself is open source, and mailman is common, old, open, and uses well known, well developed tools and tech. The skills are readily available if we want something fixed or custom.

If no harryproa.com, then I was looking at a straight mailman server, which should be able to host any number of discussions, and give email and web interfaces.

Also, mailman people have already done the yahoo data pull thing.

But I am often wrong Mike, so keep the ideas coming.

|I highly recommend going with a preprogrammed WordPress plugin that

| After non-exhaustive research, I'd go with:
| https://buddypress.org/ https://buddypress.org/
|It's free and allows for additional plugins, such as the
|"reply-by-email" plugins:
|https://dev.commons.gc.cuny.edu/2012/07/27/introducing-buddypress-reply-by-email-beta/
| (free, open-source)
|https://www.buddyboss.com/product/buddyboss-reply-by-email/
| (commercial, $99 for a license and updates for one year.
| And a files/media plugin:
|https://wordpress.org/plugins/buddypress-media/
|That way we'd get both sets of benefits -- a hosted forum with files
|and history, and also the ability to interact via email.
| I think the same things can be done with the bbPress plugin as well.

|WordPress makes lot of sense because every Web Host offers it now, plus
|the number of plugins it supports is vast. Very few things need to be
|done by hand any more.
|Plus, I think the Harryproa site is already in WordPress, in which case
|everything could be on a single location, plus backups of the site done
|by the web host (and periodically downoaded to somewhere) would then
|also contain the complete forum archive as well.
|I can't offer to configure and run the forum, but I'd be willing to
|fork over the hundred bucks to cover the cost of a reply-by-email
|plugin if the open-source version doesn't work out.
