With my recently purchased Black Soo, which is now 52 years old, there is no glass on it - it is epoxied only below the water line (2 Coats of Epoxy Primer and two coats of CopperCote - copper powder in epoxy resin). Single pak Polyurethane on the topsides and on the decks.  Inside it is painted with Haymes house enamel paint.  There is not a skerrik of rot anywhere, and I have had two surveys done.  The paintwork is virtually perfect, even the enamel interior.

So, why would you glass over plywood?  I have seen a lot of yachts with glass peeling off plywood decks.  A friend of mine is having to go through that ordeal, and it requires a lot of cutting out of rotted ply that got wet under the glass.

I am bringing this up as a case study only.  My question is how much extra would one of the larger Harrys (say the 50) weigh if plywood was used instead of foam and glass?  Would that level of extra weight ruin the handling and performance?

Thanks.
