     Barbs serve no purpose with vacuum.... the actual barb is intended to grip the hose... a smooth fitting actually should seal better under vacuum than a barb.   I've not done infusion yet..... but I have worked with vacuum a lot and with the proper type of hose it seals fairly easily.  If there is a problem and you need clamps, use spring type clamps, not the worm drive clamps like people use on radiator hoses and fuel lines.  Wire wrap works very well for seal with this kind of hose also.
