You are very correct about the behaviour of HP when trying to turn hard.
If you put rudder (stern only rudder i used) over quickly, there is a big drag of water. Plenty of sound and kind of looks cool.
Trying to force long hull sideways through water.

I think you are right, this will probably inhibit ability to tack more than anything.
So little momentum, thay you stop moving before going through the wind.
Tacking is really like a parlour trick. Should be no reason do do so.
If you are in some situation without engine, can't anchor no room to shunt, current taking you over niagara falls....bad luck!
