Hi Jeff,

In answer to your question as to why start in a garage when I was going to finish in a larger shed was due to my circumstance. Brief history. A a trailer sailor cat design I bought build plans for and I needed approval from the city on a temporary structure. Needless to say, they had a lot of questions about it but the concern they expressed was for how long the temporary structure would be there. Their building code page forbids structures enclosed in tarp, corrugated panels, etc. In essence, I'm contingency planning since I don't know how quickly I can accomplish a boat build if a tarp shed was granted for a limited time or even denied outright, in which case I have to find a barn somewhere.

Needless to say, I never got a definite go ahead from them, so the question about a temporary is still up in the air. When I have a more definite time schedule to provide them they may be more amenable to granting a temporary structure. You just can't fight city hall, as they say.

We also have shorter build window here in the upper Midwest without resorting to heating the space. As is, my wood pellet heated garage could work if I insulated the piss out of it thereby increase the build window through into the winter.

I like your idea about extending the garage. Possibly a little bump out. I could meet the city's covenant laws at a minimum and get demolished latter.

Lastly, the additional weight issue would be compromise I might live with provided it's not exorbitant.

Bob
