Zak

In the USA there is no regulations on who can work on what voltages. I was just screwing around with a friends Jacobs ladder that is over 10kv. It is powered by a few 240v AC microwave magnetrons I hooked up for him. Quite the thing to see. Should be a fun Halloween!

If you are worried about what you are working on, you are doing it wrong. The only way you stay alive doing things that will kill you, is to be sure that these things cannot kill you. If your life depends on things not being wet, on a boat, you are doing it wrong.

But, here is a thought for you. Imagine a D battery, or a 12v car battery, that can kill you if you touch it wrong, drop a tool on it wrong, or let water spray on it wrong. How much do you want to play with it on a cramped hot/cold rocking boat in a storm?

I wired aircraft with aluminum coated copper cables to save weight, with a price premium. That might be better, if you want to save weight, than a battery pack that wants you dead. Perhaps.
