IThanks Bob, Rob and Rick,
Rick, I got the Innegra from Colan.com.au. Their prices are very reasonable especially if you can get the deals. Unfortunate you have to buy by the roll so it’s no good for small amounts. If you create an account you can get all their pricing.
I can’t find the record of what it cost me but I think it was around $500 for a 50m x 1270mm roll of 225g/m2.
It is an interesting product. It’s harder to get a good bond because it floats on resin so infusion or vacuum bagging is really the only way to apply it. It is also impossible to sand so fairing becomes difficult.
It has some really nice properties though and like you’ll see in my video, it is impossible to snap or tear so so very good in a hull collision scenario.
If anyone is interested in buying some to have a play with I have some left over. I’d be happy to sell it at cost.
I like pretty boats but hopefully the shape won’t slow me down too much ;-)

Cheers
Matt

Innegra appears to be a nice reinforcement.  Where did you source the Innegra?  Can you provide a link to a retail supplier with prices?

If you are building a slow boat then curves are nice to look at.  If you want to go fast then flat planing surface are best, even if intending to fly on foils as that flat surface aid flying.  Hard chines give cleaner flow separation with lower drag than soft chines.

Hi All,
I am currently building a 26ft racing Proa prototype and have developed a tortured infused panel method using Innegra cloth and corecell foam core..
I see it as a combination of Rob's intelligent infusion and Kurt Hughes Cylinder Molding with the engineering of Lindsay Lord's method that is described in Dave Gerr's 'The elements of Bot strength'.
I did some very basic testing and found the infused foam/Innegra panel to be more flexible than plywood and stronger when a load was applied to a cantilevered offcut of the same size.
I will admit that I am not particularly scientific about these things so I'm sure someone will find some glaring faults in my methods!
I have a few videos on youtube if you are interested in seeing more about it.
I have learnt a lot through this process and will soon be putting together a video of what worked, along with what I would do differently next time.
Feel free to get in touch if you have any questions or suggestions.
I haven't had any luck with getting onto the yahoogroup page so I only get the emails that come through.

Cheers,

Matt
