Rob

Just added pictures to the other thread on tortured panels that got into hull shapes.

Matt Johnson’s R2AK boat was a smaller version of this design.  He was aiming to lift the under 20ft prize but building initially in ply and following my recommendation to carry a 7sq.m sail, after the build had started, was not built strong enough to handle the sail.  A stabiliser broke off when sailing at 10kts.  It has been very successful as a pure pedal boat.  Racing in any weather conditions against paddled craft, he is the only one to finish dry.  The cockpit/deck portion is now glass on foam making it quite a bit lighter than the all ply version.

He has been the first solo finisher into Victoria on the proving leg of the R2AK.  In 2018 he led throughout the first day of the second stage but pulled out on the third day because he started to develop knee soreness.

20ft (6m) is really too short for this concept as an open water sailing boat.  It would need to go up to about 10m to give useful cruising accomodation.  I worked on 8m as something easy to put on a trailer.
