Here's an idea that's been kicking around in my head. The seat height for an open dory tender's low freeboard  has got to be set pretty low for a safe metacenter, so how's this for an idea: An OB sled with hinged telescopic pontoons that deploy to a wider stance when ferrying people and said pontoons swung inwards to compactly stow while in propulsion mode.
