Most winches are the same.  Andersons with stainless drums with vertical ribs last longer than alloy drums with non slip.  Pontos/Krver winches are a clever option, but expensive.  Electric winches are expensive and prone to all the usual salt water/electric problems.  Electric winch handles are great, but not cheap.  Right angle drills with adaptors are a low cost option, but not waterproof.

A list search of winches did not seem productive.

So, I am asking for a 'brain dump' of our thoughts on winches.

Is there a better or more desirable set of features we want in our winches?

Is there a better set of questions I should be asking about winches?

What should I know about winches?

Is electrical assist worth it?
