No reason to hate Yahoo......... it
is Verizon that is doing this since they bought Yahoo.
Verizon will continue to on it's path, and I personally have zero
confidence in YahooGroups under VZ. They will likely try to
monetize it in various ways that will be annoying and detrimental.
I think we should join the rats
fleeing the sinking ship......... Most are going to Groups.IO,
which now is charging annual fees in the hundreds............ I
suspect a garage operation overwhelmed by the flood. Seeing
Verizon as the death knell for YahooGroups some time back, they
created the new list server, and set it up to seamlessly import
everything......... Early adopters got in with no fees, but with
the flood, the necessity to raise money for increased server
space & power resulted in these fees. They are still far
short of the horsepower needed IMHO... generating too many
bounces..... but that will change with time.
The other option worth thinking
about is Google Groups. Unfortunately it doesn't seem to have
much more than Yahoo is offering............. They do however
offer Google users photo albums, which can be shared with multiple
people....... as a separate service. These could be integrated
simply by linking in the footer. It's not integrated and
seamless like YahooGroups was....... but Google is about as stable
as any internet company out there. It is worth looking into.

Given, I hate yahoo...
If the groups are not going away, but just becoming
private email lists, is there a reason we should not stay?
Ya, get backups. Archive all the things. But, do we care
if there is no web interface?
Why not stay?
